Smoke from a fire will not cure your cold, it will cause damage to your lungs and nostrils. If you want to cure your cold then you have to breathe in steam. Take a tub of hot water and add some vaporub into it and breathe in the steam for about ten minutes. This should help you clear your chest cold. You can repeat this for about three or four times a day and it will not harm your body. Or you can simply apply vaporub on to chest and hope that the cold goes away. It will take a week in any case.
