Cannot say that wine is very good for diabetics but is good when taken in moderation for diabetics and does not cause any problem in the control of diabetes. Infact it helps reduce the after meal spike in glucose level if taken moderation with meals. Wine also contains a chemical called as resveratrol actually helps in lowering the blood sugar level. It also helps in lowering the risk of cardio vascular diseases in diabetics by 80%. It also helps in fighting against type 2 diabetes as it helps in controlling obesity which will eventually help in reducing the risks of type 2 diabetics.

Dry wine, especially red wine, is especially good for diabetics as it contains a chemical that increases insulin sensitivity. Not only does it not hurt to have a little wine for a diabetic, it actually helps the diabetic patient. A good dry red wine has around 1.5 grams of carbs (or sugar) per oz. Many researchers have discovered that citizens of France, Italians and the Mediterranean show a considerable reduction in diabetes and wine is the suspected cause.
According to researchers red wine has a strong affinity towards the protein called PPAR-gamma, which is used in diabetic drugs. PPAR-gamma controls glucose absorption in the cells and also improves insulin intake. Red wines have more than four times capacity to bind PPAR-gamma. The strong protein binding capacity of red wine comes from flavonoid epicatechin gallate and polyphenol ellagic acid, two major compounds with highest binding capacity but it is important to limit the intake of wine as wine also contains ethanol, which will add to your calories.

Researcher found that enzymes in the wine, alpha glucosidase regulates the absorption of glucose by the small intestine, & blocking its action can help reduce the blood glucose levels that occur in people with diabetes after meals.

Red wine is not completely good for diabetes but it is an antioxidant rich drink, researcher believes that the slowing down the absorption of glucose in the blood stream & helping to prevent the diabetes complications.
