Smoking tobacco in any form is injurious to health. It should be clear to everyone that smoking cigar or cigarette is harmful for both, smoker and non-smoker. When compared to cigarette, cigar has large amount of tobacco. The amount varies from 20g to 1g depending on its size (large cigars, cigarillos and little cigars). Studies have proved that cigar is more harmful than cigarette as the quantity of tar and carcinogen 'nitrosamine' is more in cigar. Also, the nicotine content of a single cigar is comparatively more and equivalent to the nicotine levels in a number of cigarettes. According to national institute of cancer cigar smoking causes cancer of the oral cavity, larynx, esophagus, and lung. It may also cause cancer of the pancreas. Moreover, daily cigar smokers, particularly those who inhale, are at increased risk for developing heart disease and other types of lung disease. Regular cigar smokers and cigarette smokers have similar levels of risk for oral cavity and esophageal cancers. The more you smoke, the greater the risk of disease. Cigar smoking has been found to be more addictive than cigarette smoking. Nicotine can be entered via two routes i.e. by inhalation into the lungs and by absorption through the lining of the mouth. Thus, whether you inhale the smoke in or not, just by placing a cigar between the lips makes a person expose to the toxic substances, leading to ill health.
