Exercises are one of the natural ways to cope with stress. A vigorous physical activity, workout or a sport reduces the stress and eventually returns a balanced state of mind and body. In a stressful situation various hormones are released such as cortisone, adrenalin etc. presence of these hormones for prolong period in the blood can lead to headaches, decreased immune system, cardiovascular diseases , stress induced peptic ulcers, depression etc. During exercises there is release of norepinephrine, endorphins, serotonins, etc. which make one feel positive and relaxed. Also there is generalized sense of wellbeing there by reliving stress. Exercises act as a distraction from the stressors thus, gives a safe outlet to resolve ones inner tension. Exercises along with increasing fitness level of an individual, also increases ones threshold to all stressors. Thus, exercises can be an effective way to combat stress and all stress related diseases. One can go for aerobic exercises, aquatic exercises, Tai Chi, Pilates, Yoga, meditation, relaxation techniques etc. to manage stress.
