Diabetes can be treated by following three simple steps-a proper diet containing foods that are low in glycemic index, regular exercise and the required medication.
*During diabetes-Diet should be devoid of simple sugars, refined cereals, fruit juices, sweets, alcohol, cold drinks, white rice, tubers and some fruits like banana, mango, chikoo, litchi and grapes.Foods high in fats, cholesterol should also be minimum in order to keep the weight under control.Basically the diet should ideally have complex carbs like whole cereals, fresh vegetables, fruits, sprouts, whole pulses, low fat milk and its products, egg white and lean meats. One should have small and frequent meals to avoid fluctuations in blood sugar levels.
*Exercise-You should do atleast 40-45 minutes of workout daily 4-5 times a week,to maintain your weight and blood sugar levels. It may include any cardio exercise like-brisk walk, jogging, running, aerobics, cycling or swimming.
    *Medication-As prescribed by your physician.
