    It is said that sweet potato is very good for our cardiovascular health. It is sweet in taste. It is a root vegetable which is starchy. It is not recommended for diabetic patient. This starchy root vegetable is a rich source of vitamins, antioxidants, minerals and also dietary fiber which are essential for our health. The color of sweet potato ranges from red, purple, brown and white and it depends upon the variety of the sweet potato. Some of the health benefits of sweet potato are-
    1. Low in calories
    2. Excellent source of beta carotene and vitamin A
    3. Full of essential vitamins
    4. They also contain minerals

    The nutritional value & benefits of sweet potatoes are as follows:
    *It is rich in dietry fiber so it lowers the risk of constipation, diverticulosis and colon and rectal cancer.
    *The presence of beta-carotene in sweet potato helps the body fight against free radicals and thus, prevents cancer.
    *Since sweet potatoes have a low glycemic index, they can be consumed by those suffering from diabetes.
    *Sweet potatoes are very low in saturated fat & cholesterol is absent so they are helpful in minimizing the risk of heart disease, stroke, diabetes and obesity.
    *The high amount of potassium in sweet potato helps the body in maintaining fluid and electrolyte balance as well as cell integrity.
    *Owing to the presence of iron and calcium, sweet potatoes ensure proper blood flow and also improve bone density.
    *Sweet potatoes have been classified as an excellent source of vitamin A and a very good source of vitamin C.
    *Sweet potatoes are also an excellent source of manganese.
    *Sweet potatoes have been found to be beneficial for blood purification as well as lowering of blood pressure.
