If you drink too much of it, then I suppose it would be harmful. Many people believe that soft drinks that contain cola are responsible for causing kidney failure and other major diseases that relate to the kidneys. If your drink more than one soda a day you are at risk of getting a kidney disease. Of course this depends on the individual and the type of body constitution. I know they are tasty, but sodas have no health benefits and it is better to avoid them. Sodas can also cause kidney stones and affect your bones. Hope it clears your query. Cheers

Kidneys are less able to excrete phosphoric acid when it is in excess. Thus, there is extra work for kidney.
Soft drinks remove Calcium from the body, causing an excess amount of Calcium that tend to be deposited in kidney, resulting in nephrolithiasis (kidney stones).
