This condition is also known as band or friction band syndrome. It is characterized by pain and tightness over the outer part of the thigh and lateral femoral epicondyle that occurs during vigorous walking, hiking or running. It occurs frequently in runners or cyclists.Treatment of ITBS is usually conservative, consists of rest, using heat therapy and stretching before exercise, ice massage after exercises.Shoe modification to prevent overpronation of foot and orthotics to correct biomechanical problems can also help.Strengthening of the hip abductors and gluteus medius muscle, also led to symptom improvement.Soft-tissue mobilization, trigger point release massage techniques may be used to lengthen the ITB.
