Increase your activity level. Exercises such as tennis,Any sports, walking or running can help your body get rid of excess water in your legs and ankles.Limit your salt intake. High sodium amounts in the diet cause you to retain water.

Some foods are diuretic in nature and thus help to reduce water retention. These are barley, parsley, green tea, tomato, oats, watermelon. Include these foods in your diet and reduce the consumption of sodium to get rid of water retention.
