Metabolism refers to all the chemical reactions or processes taking place in the body. It can be catabolic or anabolic in nature. Increasing metabolic rate is one of the ways to reduce weight where total energy expenditure of the body increases, thus leading to weight loss. To increase metabolic rate you can go for strength training by using weight, theraband and theratubes etc. Strength training increases lean body mass (Fat free mass) which is directly related to metabolic rate and thus, increases metabolic rate. Some of the food is known to boost metabolic rate. Thermionic effect of food determines its ability to boost metabolic rate. High fiber food requires more energy to digest and thus increases the metabolic rate for example apple, grape fruit, green leafy vegetables etc. Omega 3 fatty acids and other essential fats are known to increase leptin, a hormone which increases the metabolic rate. Caffeine containing beverages also increases metabolic rate. Other factors which affects metabolic rate are stress, hormonal levels, age, sex etc.
