Most of the people get confused during the strength training, as they are not clear when are they supposed to breathe in and breathe out during weight lifting. Breathing pattern is one of the important determinants for the progress. Incorrect breathing technique and holding the breathe during weight training can increase the blood pressure and the internal pressures like intrabdominal, intraocular pressures in the body which may be dangerous and leads to valsalva maneuver. Take a couple of deep and longed breathes before lifting the weights. Remember the rule of thumb, exhale or breathe out while exerting i.e., while lifting the weights or during the contraction of the muscles. As lowering the weights to their original position or during the lengthening phase of the muscles, perform smooth and controlled inhalation. The exhalation should be done from mouth and inhalation from the nose.
