Shin splint is a common problem faced by the runners because of any of reasons like the over pronation of foot, improper stride length, overtraining, muscle imbalance between the calf and tibial muscles,or due to improper shoes. The general treatment includes icing and rest to the painful area.Swelling can be managed by elevation of the part.Proper shoes with the shock absorbers and arching effect can be used to prevent the stress on the shin.Cross training including low impact activities, increasing the dynamic flexibility so that it can contract eccentrically and concentrically rapidly, but these exercises should be done under the guidance of a physical therapist.

    Hi Chinmay,
I would go with Lifemojo Expert said that for shin splints you need to use PRICE protocol till 48-72 hours and later you can go for heat therapy , light exercises and massage of that part. The immediate treatment for shin splints is stretching the muscles of front leg. And hold this stretch for 20 counts. There are many other factors you need to look into for better treatment.
