Does stair climbing strengthen the calves?

    Stair climbing is one of the vigorous and cardiovascular workouts. Compare to walking, stair climbing is almost three times more efficient in burning calories. This is because in stair climbing one has to lift his/her body vertically up against the gravity thus burns more calories. Calf muscles play an important role in upward propulsion of the body. Since whole body is lifted up, it is a good workout for calves. Also stair climbing can be a good workout to strength your butts, hams and quads. Exercise physiologists suggest stair climbing can also be good workout to improve balance and posture. Being vigorous cardiovascular activity proper warm up and cool down is important. Individuals with cardio vascular diseases or at higher risk should consult their physician. Also individuals with back pain or knee pain may aggravate their pain with stair climbing.

    Some tips to gain height are as follows but it is possible only till certain time-
    * Get the proper sleep 8 hours at least a night.Sleep without a pillow.
    * Proper nutrition eat diet rich in fruits, vegetables, proteins.Take a multivitamin.Drink lots of water.Drink milk, eat dairy products.
    * Run 5 miles a day.Run with 5 pound ankle weights, increase to 10 pounds over time.
    * Jump rope 400 times a day, the goal is to do 1000-2000 jump rope a day but that will be done throughout time.
    * Do sit ups with 10 pound medicine ball start out with 50, do 1000 sit ups over time.
    * Do pull ups start with 15 pull ups a day. Try to make it to 100 pull ups a day over time.

    Hi Supriya,
    Stair climbing may help you to strengthen the calves. if you put your fore feet on stair then you would surely strengthen your calves. But at a same time you have to keep your posture good to avoid any injuries.
