Edema is generally caused by retention of fluid and pedal edema is also caused by the same problem. This usually occurs in the feet, ankle, and leg area. Swelling in the region can be quite painful and it might also make it difficult to walk properly. Edema can sometimes occur suddenly and without warning but in most cases it occurs slowly and one can look at the symptoms and identify the problem. Many patients make the mistake of waiting till the last possible minute before they seek professional help and this is something that must be avoided at all costs..
