The ideal bench press body weight ratio depends upon how many kilograms of weight you can lift in the initial stage. The power and energy may not be the same for all the people. Some with leaner body may have more strength to lift the weights while some with heavy body may not be strong enough to lift the weights. One can perform 10 reps in a perfect form and then decide on his strength. The strength depends at the point where he struggles to lift the weight and requires somebody to give him a slight help. It is said that it should be 70% max and then 30% more should be added as you progress.

    Hi Chinmay,
Nandini is some what right. The ratio of bench press body weight ratio depends on your weight lifting power and initial training with weights. Bench press locates your triceps, pectoralis and a part of deltoid muscles which is on the back of your arm. Better is to progress slowly with less weights and once you are able to do good with your muscles you can give a try to bench press.
