Anaerobic exercises are the exercises in which our body rather using oxygen ,it will more use the ATP stored in the body. So any activity of short duration and high intensity lasting for mere 2 secs or up to 2 min. E.g. lifting a 100 lbs of weight once will be considered an anerobic exercises. Anaerobic exercises will help improving our strength.

Anaerobic exercise is exercise intense enough to trigger anaerobic metabolism. It is used by athletes in non-endurance sports to promote strength, speed and power and by body builders to build muscle mass.
