Cycling is a great cardio activity and a fat burner and primary choice for those peoples who have knee problems. But before cycling its really important to choose right cycle and adjust the seat height and all in proper position and also it shuld be able to make your effort less and more depending on your choice. So there are many bikes which are available with a fixing gear which helps you to select your own affort level. Also, there are various bikes available with different variations in tire. Make sure that the tyres should be able to give your cycle a proper amount of friction and so try choosing tyres with lots of ridges to keep a good contact with your ground while cycling. Also cycle tyres should not be much wide , it should be of normal width to manage your efforts. Make you seat height adjusted so as your knee should be a little felexed when paddle is at its lowest position. This will help to avoid stress getting at knee joint.

    Hi mala,

Basically your choise would depend on the duration of riding , there are 5 types of bikes available -

Road bikes: They are meant to cover long distances mainly on the roads. Their light weight and narrow tires help you to conserve energy during long rides.

Mountain bikes: As the name suggest these bikes are extremely strong, the tires have knobby treads and they are specifically designed for really rough terrain.

Hybrid bikes: They are a combination of mountain and road bikes.

Cruisers: Also called as touring bikes, they have wide tires, upright handlebars and most of the times are loaded with a gear box.

Utility bicycles: They are designed for commuting, shopping and running. They employ middle or heavy weight frames and tires and they often have internal hub gearing.
