    hai Anil,m very keen to participate this event...m not participated much events and just done single half marathon last month completed in 2:45(chennai marathon),right now m daily practising like 6KM running+ 2 days once swimming (1hr)...

    some time i used to get Knee pain only in 1 leg while jogging,but when i start walking then no issues...is it normal, or its better to check with some physician? any advice?

    thanks in Advance!!!

    @senthil ganesh,
    That is good.....ur first event and did a good job....knee pain as u mentioned it stops once u start walking....if that is the case u dnt hv to worry much....most Important aspect what u need to remember is u need to STRENGTHEN ur knee.....u can do that in two ways ONE is STRETCHING after every workout.....TWO is knee exercise with weight....Leg extention....one more without weight [sit on a chair......knee should come to the edge of the chair.....from knee u lift the leg up....upto horizontal to the ground and then bring it back.....like that do 20 times each leg...] this helps in strengthening of the knee....
    10k run u really dnt need build ur endurance may be u can focus on pace/speed....keep all ur practice runs to 6 or 7 kms....focus on speed....
    If possible introduce 1 or 2 days per week to strength training [working with weights] and 1 day HIIT [High Intensity Interval Training]
    Let me know ur progress.....and if u hv any uncleared doubts.....have a happy RUN....!!!

    hai Anil, thanks for your quick response,yes observe tat knee pain only some times, and if i stop running then i dont feel that pain any more.
    i will try to include other excersie as well like working with weights,leg extension.

    Tats right i need to imporve the pace slowly..as of now i could manage 5KM in 30 minutes,so probably i ll try to improve slowly by doing other excercise ...

    @senthil....
    You are most welcome....that is good....knee pain what u mentioned....any pain u get/experience like that and disappears after a short while is called Improvement pain....it is good and u need not worry about it....it is an indication ur body is moving/preparing itself for facing that event.....now we hv almost 71 days to go for sunfeast.....by looking into the time u r taking to run 5k and half marathon.....correct me if i am wrong.....u can loose around 5 to 6 kg weight [compare to ur ideal weight].....and that helps in increasing the speed also...may be that is that much less stress on KNEES....it is like this the entire body weight hits against the ground and ground resists back all that IMPACT is borne by ankle, knee and leg....naturally there is so much stress on knees....each kg less weight is that much better for the body.....all the very best go for it....keep writing ur experiences everybody gets benefitted naturally u also....hv a wonderful RUN....!!!

    ya anil,i do observe some time the pain,but it goes soon, so i am not worrying much about that,thats right i hope i will loose 3-4 KG atleast if i continue my practise and that will help me to increase my running pace.

    My practice includes,
    1. Daily 10KM cycling+5KM running (morning) and evening in Gym m planning to do basic warmup+running+some weight excersise
    2.Weekly twice swimming+5KM running

    i am not bother about the Pace now,let me try to build up my stamina then slowly i ll increase my running pace after 3 weeks...

    Any comments or inputs will be very much helpful...

    @Senthil....
    That is fantastic....u r doing perfectly right....i was not sure what was that u were focusing.....makes sense first build stamina and then think of speed....we hv sufficient time to work on the speed later....TWO observation
    ONE even though u r not building right now on speed i still feel, it is better if u include in ur running once a week HIIT [High Intensity Interval Training]....u will hv solid advantage....
    TWO u wrote in the zym....u do warmup + running + some weight exercise....what i suggest is this [for that this is my assumption, i really dnt know how u want to look.....i assume.....u dnt want to look bulky, u want to look LEAN (Salman khan- BULKY & Lance Armstrong-LEAN) make a small change....ie. Warmup + some weight exercises + running (anyway cool down last).......i personally feel LEAN is THE look.....wish u finish strong.....!!!

    Hmm...thanks for your input,lets see how it goes...i want to finish strongly by any case in this event,looking for 40 minutes finish atleast...lets see...
    Happy running....

    @Senthil....
    I wish u do that....just to give u an idea wt is that timing means....u, me and most of them need to run in Open category and not Elite.....the timing what u r talking about is the timing of the GUY who has finished first in open category for 2009 out of 8000 plus runners in that category......this year at least it will be 12, 000 plus......cool......go for it......all the very best.

    ha ha ha...tats right i have seen some of the event results,and yes why not we will always try targetting the best with hard work and see what happens...
    BTW so we need to participate only in the Open category only? ant not in Elite? why is that so? is there any restriction?
  • Posted March 8, 2010 at 8:39 AM
    @Senthil....
    Yes only in the Open category....if someone is willing to participate in Elite at least in one the criteria as below mentioned they need to qualify....
    1] They should have certain timings, that is definately lower than 40 mnts....
    2] They need to have Indian Athletice Federation/Indian Olympic Association entry certificate.....
    3] It is only by invitation....
    4] One should have participated in 5 international marathon events in the previous 12 months....
    5] Previous sunfeast open 10k First finisher....
