Sole pain can have many reasons. Wear good shoes when you run. This will provide a cushioning effect to the sole. You must be exerting too much pressure on your soles instead of balancing it throughout the foot .Avoid that. Practise how to do it. Cracked soles will cause much pain. The heels do not have any oil secreting gland. They tend to be very hard and often crack; esp if you have dry skin. With cracked heels the more pressure you give ,more it will pain. Also if you problems of overweight you can feel pain in soles.

Hey Sarah, Soleus is one of the calf muscle. While running, this is the muscles which helps to push the ground. So you need to do a proper warm up and stretching before your start up running so as to prepare your calf muscles for running.
