Skipping is quite high intensity thing. It is equal to running @12 km/hr. 20 minutes of skipping = close to 250 calories. If sometime you get bored of gymming and running, you can do skipping for a change. Its easy, inexpensive, can be done at home and doesn't require any major accessories.

I dont know if there is any maximum anyone can do. It will all depends on person to person, but I have never been able to do it more than 2-3 minutes continuously. I do close to 80-100 in a minute.

    @Anil sir...
    Skipping
    1) helps to lose weight.
    2) enhances your coordination and rhythm between hands and feet movements
    3) Strengthens your bones and increases your stamina and endurance
    4) increases your attention skills
    5) enhances flexibility and athletic abilities. It improves your reflexes, balance and posture
    6) tones your muscles in arms, legs and abs
    7) Without running it speeds your heart rate like that of a runner and so requires a lot of energy to maintain a good fitness point.
I collect the onf from internet...hpe u benefitted from this sir....t/c

I do 500 skips and it takes me 10-15mins, I assume that is not good then....
  • Posted June 3, 2010 at 7:16 AM
@Kaur..normally, 600-700 skips per 10 mins is a good starting pace (roughly 1 turn per second)... u r somehow lil bit slower.. but its k in my pt f view....
Tips to increase your skips rate :-
    1. Stand tall but relaxed-breathing naturally
    2. Elbows remain at waist level with arms extended sideways at about a 90
    degree angle
    3. Use a circular wrist motion to turn the rope
    4. Hold the rope loosely, using thumb and index finder for control
    5. Jump on the balls of the feet landing softly
    6. Jump just high enough for the rope to pass under the feet
    Hpe it will help ...

    Ok will let u know.
2600 skips seems like a lot. Which areas would you say skipping tones etc. Bottom, legs arms??
  • Posted June 3, 2010 at 12:35 PM
@Kaur .. Skipping uses virtually all the same muscles and thats wy it has the same effect as running. The only difference is that you will burn less calories in skipping than that of running:: but if weight isn't the problem, skipping is very suitable for you. . . . .
