Losing weight by running is a good idea! Running and jogging helps you burn many calories and you will get fit as well. When you start of it might be really difficult to run but then your lungs will get used to the process. Whenever I start my run I always make sure that I warm up properly. The last thing that you want to do is to pull a muscle during your run. Once you stretch your muscles you will be able to start running freely. Once you break a sweat increase your speed and maintain a good pace. Towards the end of your run you can slow down and warm down as well.

    Hi Lavanya,
Running is an intense aerobic exercise. Compare to other aerobic exercises like walking, jogging etc. it burns more calories and hence seems easy way to lose weight. But since running is intense and straining activity so obviously one may not be able to do it for long time, where as low to moderate intensity activity can be sustained for longer time and thus net calories burned is comparably more in low to moderate intense exercises than intense aerobics exercises. Also studies have proved that moderate intensity exercises are much more beneficial in losing weight than the intense one.

    Hi Lavanya,
As Ravish said that running is a high impact exercise so it takes time to get comfortable with running as you need to first start with low to medium impact exercises. You should not start suddenly with running if you are a beginner. You need to start first with brisk walking then jogging and later switch to running. This type of pattern would help you to get first adapted to light and medium impact exercise. Also, once you start with running make sure that you keep a note on following things :
    1. Do a proper amount of warm up and cool down.
    2. Make sure that you wear a right and comfortable running shoes .
    3. Try cadence breathing while running. i.e. after 3-4 steps breathe out followed by 3-4 steps and breath in. The number of steps varies from individual to individual.
    4. Keep your posture correct while running to avoid any injuries.
These all point would help you to improve your running performance.
    Cheers !!
