You can't prevent cramps when you are cycling long distance. Unless and until you are a super fit athlete then you will face cramps at some point or the other. Usually cramps occur when your muscles get tired and stop working. If you are unfit then this is likely to happen very quickly. But if you are reasonably fit person then you might be able to make yourself last for longer periods. Also drink plenty of fluids before you start cycling, this should help tremendously. Energy drinks and electrolyte salts are ideal for preventing cramps to an extent. Hope that helps!

    Hi Veronica,
To avoid cramps you should keep your body well hydrated and keep on having sips of water in between of cycling as dehydration can lead to cramps. Again, dont forget to do stretching and warm up before cycling as stretching can help to improve the flexibility of your lower body muscles and warm up exercises would help your lower body to get ready for intense training and thus also improves blood supply.
