Hill running may be a great way to fitness but it is also extremely tough. It’s enough to dishearten even experienced runners. But hill running builds up your speed and stamina and thus could help you even in sprints and long distance running. One way to cope with strenuous hill running is to keep a relaxed frame of mind. Most of us psych ourselves and are thus mentally unable to stay the course. Also improve your running technique. Let your legs do the work as you move up the hill, while keeping your upper body relaxed. As the incline gets steeper, lift your knees and practically push off on each step. The knee lifts ensure that your legs do not hit the ground too hard. As you come down the hill, change your running style. Lean into the incline and adopt quick short strides. Do a few practice runs with the above technique and soon you will lose your fear of hill running.
