    I believe the heat and sunlight makes a real big difference. I usually run in the mornings and the sunfeast 10K happens late in the morning. By this time the sun is up in the sky and there is significant heat. because of this you get tired easily and you would need more water breaks. Overall, your speed would be reduced.

    I would suggest please time your self at the particular time of the day when the race is actually going to happen. You can do it atleast over the weekends!

    @anil
    I try to run a 5K atleast 4 times in week. However due to my busy schedule I have not been able to run more than twice a week.

    Also, once in 15 days I try to run a 10k and check my timing. I have been clocking 1 hr and 5 minutes recently.

    I hope till the day comes I should be able to clock less than one hour of timing.

    I know I should do some strength training along with running practice, but I have not been able to do so. My bad :(

    @anil whats your target time for the 10k? Any strategy you have made for the event?
  • Posted February 25, 2010 at 10:32 AM
    @Himanshu....
    Yes that is what i also do....5 kms 4 times a week....what is my focused timing for the event is less than 45 mnts....already am doing 50 & 51 not very consistently.....i mean at times 50 and sometime 51....focusing not to put on weight at any cost, may be looking at loosing a kg or 2.....
    BELOW IS MY STRATEGY FOR THE SAME.....
    * I do at least 100 kms of cycling per week [basically cross-training]....
    * I do skipping twice a week for building my endurance, strong abs/hips/ankle and for speed....
    * Focusing on building my upper body to do SINGLE HAND push-ups....
    * Most important of all is HIIT [High Intensity Interval Training] for building my speed, as of now once a week...by March will start doing Twice a week....
    * What is that i wanted incorporate here as of now which i am not able to do is running a Half Marathon every fortnight [for burning fat]....[am also not completely convinced about its advantage as for as recording best timing in a 10k run....]
    This is what i do Himanshu as of now....looking at the results....i may make some changes.....i appreciate ur sharing...!!!

    @anil I have not yet registered. Will be registering in 1-2 days. Training was going good until I got cold & cough (with a little temperature) around 2 days back. Will be resuming my training once I am fully recovered.
