Hi, How many of you practice barefoot running.....what is your observation.....how often one should try this.... is that can contribute for increasing the pace of the run....please share every you know about barefoot running....????
i never tried, and never intend to ,it is not healthy to run barefoot , if you see the anatomy and structure of a foot.It comprises of lotsof tendons and flexors and arch on sole.we need proper running shoes to get padding to support that arch.
@shehnaz....African and Ethiyopian runners even today practice barefoot running and that really helps in building the speed....i kind of disagree to what you wrote....!!!!
it is not a common practice though, professional runners must be running in proper running field, how many of us has got access to that kind of facility? if the ground is safe and available, one can always try.
@shine do you jog on the grass ,the pavement or the road?
Shoes are great protectors, but I have to agree with Anil. Running barefoot is more natural. A lot of injuries today are caused by improper running in running shoes. Injuries like shin splints or achilles tendon and plantar fasciitis are the results. Our body naturally knows how to land on our feet properly as apposed to being in shoes. That said, shoes are great protectors for cuts etc and technology is getting better on the shoes.
I wear shoes most of the time, but have discovered that my feet need exercise too. Sometimes with so much support in the running shoes, I think my feet forget. I love to go running down our long grass strip!
While i dont practice barefoot running I do practice minimalistic running, running in shoes with no support. Runners dont need shoes, infact running shoes are the cause of the numerous and widespread running injuries! If you sprint what part of the foot do u land on? The ball of your foot so why should running be any different? I have never had any injuries so far and the experience is amazing! I encourage you to read "Born to Run" by Christopher McDougall and look into Feelmax shoes. If you do plan to try barefoot or minimalistic running start small! There is a muscle on the back of your calf that gets quite sore the first time you run. Just listen to your body and dont push yourself! Hope this helpds
