Are there any health reasons why people choose between walking barefoot in shoes?

If you walk barefoot then you are likely to develop calluses and bruises on your feet. But shoes can make you sweat and cause infections as well. Your feet need to breathe and suffocating them with shoes all the time is not a good idea. You might end up with a fungal infection or a bacterial infection. You can opt for sandals or flip flops if you live in a hot or tropical place. It is very important to let your feet have continuous air flow. Walking barefoot inside the house is fine as long as the place is clean
