Did you know that different foods are digested differently? It’s important to learn to combine foods for optimal health benefits. Foods are divided into four major groups like starches, fruits, meat, grains and nuts. Combining these groups in your meal can be dangerous. It’s best not to combine alkaline and acidic foods as they don’t work together. Never combine starch with protein as each has a different digestive period. Don’t combine protein foods with nuts or fruits. Non starchy vegetables like sprouts, cauliflower, cabbage cucumber, leafy greens, eggplants, okra, peppers etc can be combined with all foods. Fruits are best eaten alone to derive their nutritional benefits.

Food combining is based on the theory that different food groups require different digestion times. Digestion is helped the most by using foods which have roughly the same digestion time.

Protein foods require a highly acidic environment for digestion while carbohydrates (starches, fruit and sugars) and fats require a more alkaline medium. Anytime 2 or more foods are eaten at the same time, and those foods require opposite conditions for digestion, the digestive process is compromised.

I would like to add that you can add milk, which is a protein source, you can have with nuts as milkshake. Cheese can be added with nuts with make cheese tikka and cutlets.
