There are many people in urban areas today that suffer from phlegm related problems. This can be really irritating as it not only itches the throat; it also constricts the flow of air in the windpipe. A runny nose can also be a problem as you have to constantly clear it and it actually interferes while you are working. There are certain foods that you can avoid in order to stop the production of phlegm. Dairy products increase the production of phlegm in your body, so it is advisable to avoid any dairy food products. Also you should avoid eating any food that is hot, spicy and pungent, as it stimulates the flow of phlegm.

When you are sick, consuming certain foods can promote the production of phlegm, making the urge to cough worse. These include dairy products, fried foods and meats. Avoid these when you have a cold to help prevent the creation of phlegm coughs.
