Mucus is a slippery secretion produced by mucous membranes that protect areas of the body. While normal amounts of mucus support wellness, excessive production can cause adverse effects ranging from mild discomfort to difficulty breathing. Certain foods may help reduce mucus production:
*According to the University of Maryland Medical Center (UMMC) anti-inflammatory oils including cold-water fish such as salmon, albacore tuna, mackeral, sardines and lake trout, and nuts and seeds helps in reducing mucus production.
*Warm liquids (soups, tea, hot cocoa etc) may also reduce the occurrence of mucus.
*Probiotics (yoghurt, buttermilk, fermented milk, fermented soy products and foods and beverages fortified with probiotics) improve digestive health and protect the body from harmful bacteria.
