Food products which help in gaining blood are called blood building foods. Blood building foods are something the intake of which can lead to formation of blood cells which are relatively new in the body. These body building foods contain specific nutrients in high quantities. Examples of such foods are animal liver; soups more specifically bone marrow type. For infants, colostrums, milk produced in later pregnancy stages can increase the level of blood. Food rich in iron can increase blood level like meats of duck, lamb etc. Intake of dark green leafy vegetables such as spinach is also effective in gaining blood.

Increase iron rich foods like chicken, fish and green leafy vegetables like spinach,Methi leaves, drumstick leaves,Ragi, rice flakes,Corn flakes, rice bran, pear, pomegranate, peas, nuts. Vitamin C increases the uptake of iron , vit C rich foods like Amla, lemon, orange, sweet lime,Guava, etc,.Increase your intake of folate by adding these foods to your diet: green leafy vegetables, Brussels sprouts, broccoli, whole grains, wheatgerm, fortified breakfast cereal, avocados, egg yolks and melon.
Reduce your consumption of foods that reduce iron-absorption or deplete your iron reserves. These foods include: tea, coffee, smoking, alcohol.
