25-hydroxy vitamin D test is used to measure how much vitamin D is in our body. In the kidney- 25-hydroxy vitamin D changes into an active form of the vitamin & this active form of vitamin D helps to control the calcium & phosphate. The normal range should be 30.0-74.0ng/ml(nanogram per milliliter). Generally normal value ranges may vary slightly among different labs.
Lower than normal levels suggested a vitamin D deficiency & this condition can results from lack of exposure to sunlight, malabsorption, some of drugs like phenytoin, Phenobarbital & rifampin. Lack of vitamin D in ur diet.
Higher than normal levels of vitamin D called as hypervitaminosis D.
