Diabetes mellitus, often simply referred to as diabetes—is a group of metabolic diseases in which a person has high blood sugar, either because the body does not produce enough insulin, or because cells do not respond to the insulin that is produced. This high blood sugar produces the classical symptoms of polyuria (frequent urination), polydipsia (increased thirst) and polyphagia (increased hunger

Diabetes is a metabolic disorder in which your blood glucose, or sugar, levels increases beyond the normal values. Glucose comes from the foods you eat. Insulin is a hormone that helps the glucose get into your cells to give them energy. With Type 1 diabetes, your body does not make insulin.or its produced in less amounts. With Type 2 diabetes, the more common type, your body does not use insulin well. Without enough insulin, the glucose stays in your blood.

Over time, having too much glucose in your blood can cause serious problems. It can damage your eyes, kidneys, and nerves. Diabetes can also cause heart disease, stroke and even the need to remove a limb. Pregnant women can also get diabetes, called gestational diabetes.

    Hi

Diabetes is not a disease but only a deficiency disorder,it is life long disorder,Although it has no cure,it can be managed through diet , exercise, lifestyle modification .The pancreas produces insulin. The insulin keeps the blood sugar under control, insulin production is not enough or available insulin is ineffective. The sugar in the blood does converted into energy. This raised blood sugar is called Diabetes.

There are three main types: Type I- it is occur in children even it seen in any age. In this diabetes, the immune system attacks the insulin- producing beta cells in the pancreases & destroys them. Then it is produces very little insulin or not producing any insulin. Who having this type of diabetes should take insulin daily to live.
Type II - It is occurs for older age, in this condition the pancreas produces enough insulin but the body not able to use it.
    Gestational diabetes:
It develops only during pregnancy, But women with this type of diabetes are have chance to get type II diabetes after 5-8 yrs.
