Heart is the number of times heart beats in one minute. Resting heart rate is the heart rate calculated at rest or during no physical activity. But, the ideal time to calculate it is in the morning, after a healthy sleep. A recent research has proved that the resting heart rate can predicts the coronary events in the post menopausal women. Women with high resting rates are more likely to suffer from the coronary diseases than women with the lower rates. And, the women with high resting heart rate are often associated with a risk of developing type-2 diabetes. Lower the resting heart rate, healthier and fit is the person. A lower resting heart shows an efficient and healthy heart. The factors that can affect resting heart rate are age (usually increases with age), stress, body weight, medications, physical activity, fitness level etc. According to National Institutes of Health, 60- 100 beats per min of resting heart rate are normal for an averaged woman while for a well- trained athlete; the range can be as low as 40-60 beats per min.
