What Cholesterol Levels Mean?

    Cholesterol is considered the main risk factor of Coronary heart diseases and stroke . Cholestrol are maily of two types present in our body : Good cholesterol and Bad cholesterol . Bad cholesterol is LDL which delivers cholesterol to our body and Good cholesterol (HDL ) which removes the cholesterol from bloodstream .So this tells us why it is necessary to have a balance between HDL and LDL . Cholesterol less than 200 is good but in range of 200- 239 is boderline and more than it is too high and can lead to heart diseases. For LDL , below 100 is good for body and more than 160 is of high risk. For HDL , less than 40 is at high risk of heart diseases and higher than 60 is considered good for health.

    I agree with you completely.. Its always good to have a higher HDL (40-50) and a lower LDL (less than 110). After the age of 40 one should try to maintain these values within the range so as to prevent the risk of heart diseases.

    Hi

    Swati is correct , it easy to maintain by diet, exercise & lifestyle modification. Take good fat like flax seed, fish, sunflower seeds, almonds, walnuts, pumpkin seeds, increase fiber intake, include plenty of vegetables, fruits, drink plenty of water, avoid fatty foods & refined foods, etc.
    Do regular exercise or walking to increase HDL. Avoid smoking , limit the alcohol intake.
